Smartwatch App Design Antipattern

1. Pushy

Relevant content rather than all of it.

The digital version of the annoying salesman, this type of antipattern will pop all sorts of notifications and content before the user can "digest" or even process the information to give the app a conversion. In matter of seconds, overflow of notifications can be taken for spam, and, considering the limited time of the user and space of the device, ignored or even turned off. Which is why the best suggestion is being selective and establish priorities.

Key Considerations

  • Interrupt constantly
  • Irrelevant content
  • Ask to much
  • Annoy
  • Abuse

Apparently Positive

Send notifications or show content very frequently to try and give the app more conversions. As well as insisting to the user to input data to personalize the app.

Negative Side

Pressuring the user with excessive amount of data may be found as "spamming", annoying and may push the user away from your conversations.

Examples

Feeds app

Notifications are bombarded to the users with no filtering on the watch and the only option available is to "block" the entire app's notifications, which is not something the users want.

Health monitoring app

General users' information such as height, weight and such are held public through shared app's repositories, nevertheless, the app still asks to fill in that data again.
